As Tucson is my hometown, I’m no stranger to the ongoing challenges that our students have been facing over the last few years. COVID has definitely changed our educational outlook and processes and thrust into a new era of digital learning and unfortunately, some of our students fell through the cracks. COVID presented many challenges for students who felt overwhelmed, anxious, or had struggles learning via Zoom.
Many of our students need just a bit more support to help them refine, retain, or fill in the gaps for skills they had not finished learning in 2020 after COVID. I navigated many students through these challenges and helped them identify many skills or content areas where they needed extra support. I work closely with students to find the areas of focus and work together with families to create a plan of action and intervention to help them develop confidence, build their skills, and increase their capacity for challenging tasks.
I offer sessions to help students work on and catch-up on particular skills and subjects that feel daunting and overwhelming. We work on supplemental learning they can do outside of their regular coursework and identify helpful strategies to take back to the classroom to help advocate for themselves and to help them succeed.
